Trying something new here with a beat deconstruction demonstrating how I made one of my latest beats called "Now Sleeps (The Beating Heart)". I've used the Ableton Push 2 as my initial main sampler - it's not as new and shiny as a lot of other gear being used by beatmakers, but I've found that it gets the job done. I have a love-hate relationship with it.
I've then played out the drums with the Roland SP404 Mk2 and also used it as a sample player. I've run the output of it to my guitar pedals (EHX Pitchfork, EHX Mainframe, Chase Bliss Warped Vinyl and Chase Bliss Mood) via a reamp box (Radial JCR). Although there are onboard effects on the Sp404 mkii (some of which I really love), I like the knob-per-function and sonic flavour that I get from the pedals, especially for live performance.
